Nurseries Could Save Money On Property Tax Rates
Three nurseries in Buckinghamshire have recently successfully challenged the amount of property tax they were required to pay, saving thousands of pounds in the process.
Their success uncovers the real possibility that nurseries across the UK could be missing the chance to save money because they are paying inflated property taxes.
The three nurseries, our own Monkey Puzzle in High Wycombe, Kiddies Academy in Beaconsfield and Marlow Day Nursery in Marlow all challenged their rating assessment via the Governments Valuation Office Agency.
Marlow managed to get a whopping 30% reduction with a saving of £5000. All three appeals were handled by property consultants Bruton Knowles.
We hope the news will encourage more nurseries to do the same and see if they’re owed a refund and, importantly, reduce their bills in the future.
Ratings specialist at Bruton Knowles urges nursery owners to begin the process by saying, “Ask a chartered surveyor who is well-versed in business rates to check your property’s assessment. In the South East it’s common enough that some valuations are incorrect.”
But nurseries were warned that they may have to be patient, with Beauchamp adding,“If I made an appeal today, I doubt it would be resolved till early Spring.”
However long it takes though, a potential saving of thousands of pounds is something that should definitely be pursued.
